Retaining the wide, low-pitched style of the Lodge’s original roof has been a priority from the start. But with rooms expanding by a few feet, and windows pushing up to the ceiling, it became clear that the actual old roof needed to go. The new roof will be designed to match the old … just with a bit more structural integrity built in.


The roof deck lumber was salvaged for potential uses later in the project. The lumber stamp “SPIB-No2, 422” is decoded as follows: SPIB: Southern Pine Inspection Bureau #2: lumber grade 442: Mill Identification Number (Mill #442 is in Gordo, Alabama)
